Patience Jonathan: The $15m were gifts from friends and well-wishers over the last 15 years which I saved
Wife of former Nigerian President, Patience Jonathan has explained in details how she accumulated in 15 years over $15million in bank accounts linked to her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The detail was given in court papers filed by Union of Niger Delta Youth Organisation for Equity, Justice and Good Governance on behalf of the former First Lady, against the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) .
The suit with number FHC/L/CS/1349/2016 before a Federal High Court in Lagos, accuses SERAP of using online, print and electronic media to publish to the public unfounded and malicious allegations that she stole $15m (US), urging for her prosecution.
"The funds in question were legitimate gifts from her friends and well-wishers over the last 15 years which she had been saving in order to utilize to upgrade family businesses and concerns which had been somewhat dormant by reason of the long period of her husband service as a public officer in Nigeria.
"The gifts were given in small contributions by several persons some of whom she cannot even now recall over this period of 15 years sometimes in as small a gift as N250,000 Naira. In order to preserve the value of these funds which she did not require for any purpose at the time she changed them into foreign exchange and kept them as cash for a long period in her home safe in Port Harcourt and Abuja.
"It was when the family home in Otuoke was burnt down by hoodlums under the instigation of political adversaries in 2010 that she began to think about banking these gifts which had now grown to large sums in United States Dollars. In 2010 she therefore summoned one of her husband’s domestic aides, Waripamo-Owei Emmanuel Dudafa to assist her in opening bank accounts into which the funds could be deposited
"Unknown to her the said Dudafa in a bid to be discreet about the owner of the funds decided to bank the funds in the names of companies owned by him. When she discovered this she was constrained to continue with the names of the companies when she was advised that it did not make any difference as to the ownership of the funds since the director of the company would appoint her as sole signatory to the accounts in question
"When in 2016 Dudafa was arrested and detained she had no fear for the funds as she realized that the funds could not be attributable to him once it was discovered that she was the sole signatory to the said accounts. It was therefore a rude shock to her when she discovered that a no transaction order had been placed on the accounts by the EFCC in the belief that the funds belonged to Dudafa.
"She instructed her solicitors to further write to the EFCC to inform them that the funds belong to her and that they formed a part of her legitimate earnings over the last 15 years. It was this letter that was leaked by the EFCC to the media that became sensationalised and led to the plaintiff’s vilification and attack by ignorant persons who had no information about the matter
"SERAP is playing to the public gallery in order to gain the notoriety it has achieved over the past years. SERAP has done this mostly by intervening in high profile issues without regard to the rights of persons it claims to protect. SERAP jumped into the fray of ignorant accusations being made against Mrs Dame Patience Jonathan in the public media and has begun a campaign of calumny against her using online, print and electronic media to publish to the public unfounded and malicious allegations that she stole the funds in question and ought to be prosecuted.".

Touching story: White woman comes to Nigeria to meet man who scammed her
I found this on BBC.
62-year-old Maria Grette was a divorcee whose friends teased to give love another chance after few years. The native of Sweden was then helped by her friends to create a profile on an online dating website. Since it was her friends that playfully created the online profile, she didn’t really put her mind to it. Ms Grette, who works as an arts teacher, painter and arts therapist, didn’t give much further thought to the website.
“I received messages telling me that people had contacted me, but I never looked at them,” she said. Then, one day, she did. “I still don’t know why. It was like a sudden impulse happening before I could stop it. I was caught up by the atmosphere and by something in his words,” she said.
That particular message was from a man, Johnny, who described himself as a 58-year-old Danish man raised in South Carolina, USA; a civil engineer working on a contract in England; a widower with a son in a Manchester university. They got on by messaging each other day by day until he called her using a UK number.
Ms Grette, who had lived in different countries across Europe, was surprised that she could not place the man’s accent. She mentioned this to him but didn’t give it too much thought. He told her that he was planning for his retirement; had Sweden in mind for a place to settle; owned a house in Denmark inherited from his parents; wanted to leave that to his son, Nick, who was very attached to it, while he looked for a new home for himself in Sweden.
“I wanted to meet him because I liked him. He had a way and a sweetness I had never known in a man before. And he was innocent in a way that puzzled me.”
Three months on, Johnny agreed to come over and visit Ms Grette in Sweden. But before that, he and his son needed to make a quick trip to Nigeria for a job interview, according to him. Johnny was said to have called Ms Grette to let her know that he was at Heathrow Airport. And to say that he had landed in Nigeria. He also got her to speak with Nick. The next phone call was to tell her that he was in a Lagos hospital.
They had been mugged, his son shot in the head, and they were without money and papers. His bank does not have a branch in Africa, so he couldn’t transfer money from his UK account. And the hospital management was asking for a whooping €1000 to start treatment.
I will never forget how I rushed to the Western Union office, trembling while I did the transfer. All I could think of was to get the two persons in Nigeria out of danger,” Ms Grette said. Well, after the first transfer, it was more medical complications which required more money everyday. This made her come back to her senses and she stopped responding to Johnny’s messages.
Three weeks after her silence, he called her to confess. He told her that he was not who she thought he was.
“I said I already knew that. I asked him to tell me his true identity and he did.”
His name isn’t Johnny. He was a 24-year-old Nigerian 419 scammer. He had finished university two years earlier but had no job. He went further to describe himself as a “devil” who had wronged “a lovely woman”.
“He said he had never met anyone like me before, that he had been fighting his feelings for me for a long time. He said his scamming mates had warned him about falling in love with a ‘client’, that he had ignored them because he trusted me and did not want to lose contact with me.”
From then on, Ms Grette said their relationship took a new turn. There were no further requests for cash. And it was pure friendship. She became consumed with what she describes as “a profound need to make a difference to the people of Nigeria”. In October 2009, Ms Grette came to Nigeria to meet him and this even made their communication wax stronger as she set her eyes on him at the airport in Abuja.
During her two weeks stay in Nigeria, she met his friends, many of whom were also scammers. It was while enjoying their company one night in a local bar that she began to wonder how she could make a difference. Aside from arranging for young artists to visit Europe for arts exhibitions, workshops, conferences and competitions, Ms Grette who is now 69, also helped Johnny to leave Nigeria, to study in America.
Although they have not met each other again since, she continued to provide him with financial assistance until he completed his degree a few years ago and got a job in the American oil sector. “He is very dear to me. He has asked me so many times to forgive him and I told him that the most important thing is to forgive himself,” she said.
Wow!

Lady sets up her boyfriend with a porn star to test his faithfulness and instantly regrets it
A lady who wanted to test her boyfriend's loyalty decided to set him up with the ultimate honey trap. She sent porn star Valerie White to catch him out and the whole thing was documented on To Catch A Cheater. The unsuspecting guy didn't give in to Valerie's overt flirtations and admitted he had a girlfriend but she did succeed in getting his number after he suggested they could hang out.
That's as far as it went but the best was yet to come. His girlfriend said: "Okay, okay. I'm not going to break up with him but I don't like that he got her number and said he would hang out."
She called her boyfriend to tell him the whole thing was a test and got the shock of her life when the guy reacted angrily and dumped her for publicly doubting him and questioning his trust.

A 38-year-old South African man named Zwe, is bragging about his sexual prowess and newfound fame with married women.
He is a God-fearing born-again Christian man who goes to church every Sunday. However, Zwe said that he started making a living as a male prostitute after he realised he could make a lot of money from keeping lonely women company.
“Some women went almost two months without being intimate with their spouses and that’s where I come in. God gave me this good body and nice private parts so I am using them to make a living and support my family. No one should judge me,” he said.

Bishop Oyedepo's school in the UK may close down.
Source: BBC
A Nigerian church accused of linking poor
discipline to witchcraft wants to open an
independent school in Kent. Winners'
Chapel International, which is currently
under investigation by the Charity
Commission, wants to open the school at
its Dartford site.
Human rights campaigners and the National
Secular Society are urging the government
to turn down the school bid. The church,
whose leader Bishop David Oyedpo was
filmed accusing a woman of being a witch,
declined an interview.
The organisation, which has its headquarters in
Nigeria, is known as Living Faith Church
Worldwide and also Winners' Chapel
International (WCI).
Bishop Oyedepo, its leader in Nigeria, has been
shown on YouTube slapping a woman and
accusing her of being a witch.
His son David Oyedepo Junior is the pastor at
WCI's European headquarters in Dartford, where
the church organisation wants to open Kingdom
Heritage Model School for children aged four to
seven.
But groups including the National Secular Society
(NSS) have raised concerns amid claims the
church links child "disobedience" to witchcraft -
citing the David Oyedepo Ministries website,
which states "disobedience is as terrible as
witchcraft".
Stephen Evans, from the NSS, said the
Metropolitan Police had investigated 27 cases of
child abuse related to witchcraft this year.
He said: "There's a need to be vigilant and
there's a need to tackle this. You don't do this
by allowing organisations that believe in
witchcraft and are associated with witch-hunting
to open in the UK."
The school application is being considered by the
government. The Charity Commission confirmed
concerns raised about Winners' Chapel
International included conflicts of interest and
the charity's financial management. In 2011,
Bishop Oyedepo's fortune was estimated at
$150m (£94m).
