Eedris, who was popular with hit tunes like ‘Nigeria Jaga-Jaga’ and ‘Mr. Lecturer’, told a tabloid recently that he has gone into large scale agro-business in Kano State, where he acquired large hectares of land to cultivate maize and other crops for export.

Wife killer, Arowolo, gets death sentence

A Lagos High Court in Ikeja has sentenced to death Akolade Arowolo for the murder of his banker wife, Titilayo, who he repeatedly stabbed to death with a knife at their residence in Isolo, Lagos, on June 24, 2011.

Justice Lateefat Okunnu, in her judgment on Friday, held that even though there was no eyewitness to the incident, the circumstantial evidence adduced

For the record, I am as peeved as many Nigerians about the shortcomings of the Jonathan Administration in many areas. I also join millions of people in asking for full accountability of the NNPC ‘missing $20 billion’. But I also know a lot about heirachical politics and administration. The Guy who employs you is your f***king Boss! You disagree with him in private. You don’t come out all prima donna to undermine his authority because you have an opposition Press on your side and a tribal mindset of supporters egging you on. Damn it! I would show you who the boss is, if it was me.

And you know why Jonathan’s payback is a bitch to Sanusi? Lamido will spend the next few months trying to clear his name over the ‘financial recklessness’ he has been accused of. His credentials have been officially stained. Yes, he would scream that Jonathan is corrupt too but Nigerians have heard that before. Nothing new. What is novel would be the documents which will fly out soon from the Government exposing Sanusi’s hidden deals. That is how politics works.

And let us be clear about this; there is nothing like clean politics. When you are up there, you always fight for your survival. Even those of you working in offices and corporations know how it works.

University of Ibadan student Taiwo Shittu raped & killed in her home

27 year old Taiwo Omolara Shittu (pictured below), a 500l student of the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, University of Ibadan, was attacked and killed on the 19th of February at her sister's home at Opeyemi street, Gbagi in Ibadan.

Her sister, who she lived with, returned home from work around 5:30pm on Wednesday to find Taiwo in the pool of her own blood, her pants down to her ankle, and a machete stained with blood on the bed. Taiwo had been attacked with the machete as there was an opening on her head.

A man who cuts grass for her sister has been arrested and is currently being held at Alakia Adenubi police station in Ibadan. The man, said to be in his early 30s, has denied any involvement in the murder but it was the machete he uses to cut grass that was found in the crime scene.

The case has been transferred to the State CID. As soon as I get more updates from late Taiwo's family, I will update you guys. So sad. May her soul rest in peace..amen.

Jonathan suspends Sanusi as CBN Governor

Reuben Abati, the spokesperson for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has announced that the commander-in-chief has suspended CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

Lamido Sanusi is to effectively hand over power to senior Deputy Governor of CBN Dr Sarah Alade. She will serve as Acting Governor until all on-going investigations is concluded.

Read the official statement; “Having taken special notice of reports of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and other investigating bodies, which indicate clearly that Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s tenure has been characterized by various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct which are inconsistent with the administration’s vision of a Central Bank propelled by the core values of focused economic management, prudence, transparency and financial discipline;

Being also deeply concerned about far-reaching irregularities under Mallam Sanusi’s watch which have distracted the Central Bank away from the pursuit and achievement of its statutory mandate; and

Being determined to urgently re-position the Central Bank of Nigeria for greater efficiency, respect for due process and accountability, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has ordered the immediate suspension of Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi from the Office of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The President expects that as Acting Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Alade will focus on the core mandate of the Bank and conduct its affairs with greater professionalism, prudence and propriety to restore domestic and international confidence in the country’s apex bank.

The Federal Government of Nigeria reassures all stakeholders in Nigeria’s financial and monetary system that this decision has been taken in absolute good faith, in the overall interest of the Nigerian economy and in accordance with our laws and due process.”

Woman gives birth to stone in Yola

Amina Bello, 25-year old woman in Yolde Pate in Yola South LGA of Adamawa State, on Tuesday, delivered a sizable stone. Bello narrated her story at the opening ceremony of Vesico vaginal fistula (VVF) free medical treatment in Yola Specialists Hospital. Bello, who is also a VVF patient, told the gathering that after four years pregnancy, she finally delivered a sizable stone last year.

"I was holding a pregnancy for the duration of four years, which I bitterly suffered because of the heavy weight of what is contained in the stomach,” she said. “It was last year around June, I started feeling labour and I was in that condition for three days and finally I delivered a stone.”

She said that it was after the delivery she now discovered that she was affected with VVF. Responding, Dr Sunday Lengmang, Director VVF Centre, Jos, confirmed that giving birth to a stone or any object was possible.

Lengmang was in Yola to attain to the VVF patients for the duration of one week . “Stones and other solid objects can form in a human body in different cases,” he said. “Stones can form in a gall bladder, urinary bladder and other several parts of urinary tracks.”

The medical expert explained that why VVF patients were prone to giving birth to stones or any solid object was because they drink less water to reduce urine leakage.

He said as a result of taking less water their urine become concentrated.

“Inside urine, there is salt, sodium and chlorine, and when the urine becomes concentrated, the salt becomes crystallised and finally forms itself and later ends up as stone,” he said. Lengmang confirmed that three VVF patients had stones in their placentas and they would undergo surgery. He said the size of the stones uncovered from the three women was six by seven and three by four centimetres.

Lengmang advised VVF patients to drink more water instead of taking less to prevent them from risk of having stones

Discussing the way he was dumped by his new bride she told The Sun: 'She looked so young in the pictures and he looked a little pathetic. I don't know what else he could have expected'.

Smith claimed he was a wronged victim, duped and abandoned by his latest spouse after he met her in Gambia, married her on November 7, 2012 and brought her to the UK.

Smith married his second wife in December 2005. The marriage broke down two years later. He went missing and her solicitors received no reply in efforts to start divorce proceedings. She then reported him to the police when she found out that he'd remarried.

Smith admitted a charge of bigamy, his first crime but said he had thought he was divorced and that his divorce was 'automatic'.

Anti-gay law: Gay Nigerians flood Netherlands embassy seeking asylum

na wah oh, some Nigerians like to take advantage sha! Lol. The Embassy of the Netherlands in Nigeria has confirmed that it has received some applications for asylum by some Nigerians who fear persecution following the recent signing into law the anti-gay bill by President Jonathan, Thisday reports.

Netherlands is a gay-friendly country. The embassy sent an email to Thisday some days ago saying that despite receiving these applications, it was neither involved in processing any application for asylum seekers nor does it have the power to grant asylum to applicants.

"The embassy has received a small number of applications for asylum by Nigerians. It is not possible to apply for asylum at the embassy. We inform the applicants likewise but we do not register the number of applications made. At this stage, it is not possible to make predictions. That would be speculation. However, when people become increasingly aware that it is not possible to apply for asylum at the embassy, one could expect a decrease. The embassy is not involved in the asylum process, neither in the application nor in the determination of the authenticity of claims.”

Justin Bieber on US Homeland Security watch list, to be searched every time he enters the US

13 yr old boy rapes his 8yr old sister after watching porn because he 'wanted to try it out'

A 13-year-old schoolboy raped his eight-year-old sister after watching pornography on an X-Box computer console, a court has heard.

The teenager told police he used the games console to view explicit material before he 'decided to try it out'. The boy said he targeted his younger sister because she was small and 'couldn't remember stuff'.

At Blackburn Magistrates Court yesterday the boy admitted rape, indecent assault and inciting his sister to perform a sexual act on him.

The youngster, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, has been bailed to live with relatives away from his sister while a pre-sentence report is being prepared. Continue...

Fiona Elvines, from the Rape Crisis Charity, said that children accessing pornography was a ‘growing concern’. She said: 'This is going to completely destabilise this little girl’s life. It will take her a very long time to try and work through. It will have put her life on a different track and I do not want that to happen to anybody else.'

Ms Elvines told the Lancashire Telegraph 'For a long time, people have been sitting on the fence and saying we do not have the evidence to say porn is harmful, but now we are starting to have some evidence around young people’s exposure. 'How much evidence do you need? It shows that the government’s measures are extremely important and that we need to start acting. When children see porn, they have no context for what it is used for. There is pressure on children to be sexualised, particularly on younger boys, to start having sex. 'It is coming from peers and porn.'

The government has said that by the end of 2014 all devices with access to the internet will be blocked from accessing pornography, with users forced to opt in.

The X-Box customer support website says explicit content and internet access can be restricted using parental controls.

Microsoft, the company which makes the console, said: 'We have the greatest sympathy for all involved in this case. At Microsoft we have some of the most robust systems that allow parents to control what their children play and watch online. For example, access to the internet is switched off automatically for all child accounts on X-box, and we urge parents to review the settings on their children’s consoles.'

In November last year a 12-year-old boy admitted three charges of rape against his sister, aged under 10, after he watched pornography at school and went home to copy what he had seen.

The abuse took place over the course of a year and was only discovered after the girl confided in a family member.

The boy was given a three-year youth rehabilitation order and will continue to live at the family home.

He was ordered to register as a sex offender for two-and-a-half years.

Pupils wear religious regalia to school in Osun …sing different religious songs in assembly

There was confusion at Baptist High School, Iwo, Osun State on Tuesday as some pupils shunned their uniforms and wore choir gowns, white garments, Islamic apparel and other unconventional dresses to the school.

Although no group or individual could be identified as the mastermind of the bizarre dress code by the pupils, there were, however, conflicting reasons for the behaviour.

While some people said the unconventional dresses were a way of registering dislike for the same uniform introduced by the government for all schools in the state, others said some Christians who were opposed to wearing of hijab in schools founded by Christian missionaries orchestrated the drama.

The suit instituted on the issue of hijab wearing to school is still pending before an Osun State High Court.

But Tuesday confusion reportedly became more pronounced at the assembly ground as the pupils could not listen to their teachers because they were busy lining up themselves along religious lines.

A female pupil, who was dressed in a purple gown usually worn by the choir in the Baptist church, was said to have led Christian students in gospel praises, while her Muslim counterpart dressed in hijab was seen hollering “Allau Akbar” and singing praises to Allah from the same platform simultaneously.

It was learnt that although many other pupils appeared in the government-approved uniform, a few ones who are neither Christians nor Muslims wore clothes with the insignia of their religious beliefs, making the atmosphere in the school chaotic.

The confusion was said to have continued in the classrooms as pupils sang discordant tunes. The confusion, it was gathered, started on Monday and continued on Tuesday morning.

The teachers were said to be helpless in controlling the pupils due to the sensitivity of the issue.

The Principal of the school, identified simply as Mr. Arowolo, told PUNCH Metro that that the issue had been reported to the appropriate authorities for action.

The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Sunday Akere, said the government had been informed of the development and had sent officials of the Ministry of Education to the school on a fact-finding mission.

The Christian Association of Nigeria in the state had protested against the wearing of hijab to schools founded by Christians, describing it as an attempt to wipe away the heritage bequeathed to them by the early missionaries.

But the Joint Muslim Action Forum, which is an umbrella body of all Islamic groups in the state, issued a statement, condemning the protest.

The statement was issued by the JOMAF Coordinator, Alhaji Kola Uzamat and Secretary, Mr. Qaasim Odedeji.

The group described the prevention of hijab-wearing students from Christian schools as an act of religious intolerance which would not be allowed in the state.

The group accused Christians of attempting to sabotage Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s policy which it said was introduced to address the decay in the education sector in the state.

An undergraduate of the University of Ibadan, 28-year- old Orowo Jesse Omokoh, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly obtaining Ninety Thousand Dollars ($90,000.) from one Mrs. Jette Jacob, an Australian based in Johannesburg, South Africa, in what is known as a romance scam.

The suspect allegedly met the Aussie on a dating site and struck a sizzling romantic affair that necessitated him moving to Johannesburg in 2013 to link up with his lover.

Omokoh allegedly arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa on February 4, 2013, to meet with Jacob who had been in Johannesburg since November 2012. Five days after Omokoh arrived and took up residence with her, Jacob was found dead in her apartment with some of her valuables missing. After the incident, Omokoh reportedly fled South Africa and returned to Nigeria.

The South African Police which is investigating the mysterious death are suspicious that Omokoh has a hand in the demise of Jacob.

On March 15, 2013, the EFCC received a petition from Richard Stanford of Australian Federal Police, asking for help to track Omokoh, alleging that the Nigerian defrauded Jacob to the tune of $90,000 in a dating scam.

The Commission swung into action almost immediately but the suspected fraudster had been elusive until a few days ago when he was nabbed. He has already made useful statements while efforts are on to track his accomplices.

This is to inform you that WAEC has introduced 39 new subjects in their Syllabus

Plumbing and Fitting, Photography, Salesmanship, Upholstery, Painting and Interior decoration are amongst 39 subjects recently added to the examination syllabus of The West African Examination Council, WAEC by the examination body.

Of the 39 subjects, four of them, Computer Studies, Insurance, Store Management & Office Practice would serve as electives while the remaining 35 are for Trade-related courses.

Revealing this, the Council’s Acting Head, Test Development Division, Mrs. Olayinka Ajibade said the recent introductions were in line with the Nigerian Education Research & Development Council’s new secondary school curriculum.

Ajibade said the new syllabus would take effect from this year's May/June WASSCE Examinations and students would be required to take four core subjects which would include English Language, General Mathematics, Civic Education and Trade/Entrepreneurial Studies.
